Buildings:

The Olympia Timberland Library, mostly closed for remodeling, will also close down its meeting room and restrooms so that they can be re-painted. Staff which have been providing basic services via the meeting room, will be unpacking and re-shelving the collection. (Olympian, 12-01-08)

The Pasco Library (Mid-Columbia) will close for two months of remodeling, Dec. 31 to March 2. Some services will be provided from a bookmobile parked at the site, one which had been in storage. Staff will also be at Pasco’s Cyber Shop computer lab for patrons to pick up and drop off books, and some computer classes and Homework Help may be offered from there. “Pasco residents can also use the Mid-Columbia Library branches in Kennewick and West Richland for free during the remodel. It’s a misperception that Pasco residents’ preferred alternative library is the Richland Public Library, said (director Danielle) Krol”, and some comparative usage statistics are offered. The city of Pasco and Mid-Columbia are in contract discussions; the city’s contract with the library district expires in two years. (Tri-City Herald [Kennewick], 11-28-08).

The Deming Library (Whatcom County Library) will be closed from December 1^st to the 5th, as staff move materials into a new addition to the library. The new addition will be open on Saturday, Dec. 6, when the library will host the Annual Holiday Tea. (Bellingham Herald, 11-28-08)

A letter from Brian Soneda, director of the Mount Vernon Public Library, thanks the Friends of the Library and other community departments for their help in the Friends Fall Book Sale, which brought in $1,263 for support of library programs. (Skagit Valley Herald, 11-30-08)

Programs and Displays:

By popular demand, photographer Keith Lazelle returned to the Jefferson County Library for a repeat presentation describing how he created the images in his book Fast Moving Water: the Hoh River Story. (Port Townsend Leader, 11-26-08)

The William H. Reed Timberland Library in Shelton is offering several December programs—a WrestleMania Reading Challenge for teens, A Science Play hands-on program for children and families, and a Poetry Encounter for adults and teens, as well as the Page Turners book discussion group for adults, and a Read the Movie group for teens.

“The Friends of the White Salmon Valley Community Library (Fort Vancouver Regional Library) invite the community to the 34^th Annual Holiday Wassail Open House on Dec. 6.” The afternoon includes live music by several groups, an art show, demonstrations by local artisans, and kids’ crafts and activities.
