Clippings, January 9, 2009, Part 1
“Following a cordial meeting on Dec. 18 that included Othello City Council members, Adams County Rural Library District 1 representatives and the executive director of the Mid-Columbia Regional Library, an attorney from the Mid-Columbia Library board announced the regional library board will be sending an official letter this week to terminate contract services with the City of Othello at the end of 2009.” (Othello Independent, 12-24-08)

The Whitman County Library Board of Trustees will host a public meeting Jan. 6 to answer questions about the Colfax Library renovation project. The library’s $500,000 USDA low-interest loan has been pre-approved, and architects are being interviewed. (Whitman County Gazette [Colfax], 12-25-08)
The planned remodeling of the Sequim Library (North Olympic Library System) will be slightly set back by delays in the delivery of materials. The project is being funded by a $190,000 bequest and $150,000 from the Friends of the Library. ( Peninsula Daily News [Port angeles], 12-28-08)

In Seattle, the 356 people who completely filled their library “passports” by visiting each of SPL’s 27 branches were honored, and the names of four prize-winners were drawn. Special guests were the family of one avid reader who had gotten to all but one branch before his sudden death last month. (Seattle Times, 1-08-09)

The Puyallup Public Library and the Tacoma Astronomical Society hosted a star party at the library, with a free evening of looking through telescopes, drinking hot chocolate, and “making stomp rockets”.
