Yakima Valley Regional Libraries pass state audit with only one blemish. The results of a December audit were recently provided to the Yakima Valley Regional Library and Kim Hixson, Interim Director, is happy. She said the statement was not impacted heavily by the one item listed and she views the overall process as a positive for Yakima Valley Regional Libraries. (Daily News [Sunnyside], 3-10-09)

The Friends of the Mill Creek Library is accepting applications for the third annual Professional Development Grant Program. Individuals who live, work or otherwise have ties to the greater Mill Creek area and are actively involved in child or adult literacy within the community are invited to apply. Buildings:

All are welcome to come in and check out the new look to the Farmington Library, a part of the Whitman County Rural Library District. The City office was separated from the Library with a partial wall and half door. (Whitman County Gazette [Colfax], 3-5-09)

The Moses Lake Public Library Foundation is moving forward with plans to design an expansion to the library on Fifth Avenue. Once plans are completed and funds obtained, the foundation intends to give the project to the city for final construction. The library is a city building staffed by personnel from the North Central Regional Library organization. (Columbia Basin Herald [Moses Lake], 3-9-09)

Vancouver is considering a proposal to use sales tax proceeds from construction of a downtown headquarters library to pay for a temporary parking lot with 75 spaces for library users. The Fort Vancouver Regional Library District plans to stay on track to begin construction this year on an 83,000 square-foot library. The downtown library is expected to cost about $38 million. Programs and Displays:

Whitman County Library’s “Foods For Fines” February drive collected nearly $1,100 worth of food to assist area families in need. The March exhibit in the White Salmon Library’s Sprint/Baker Gallery will feature works by local photographer Liza Carlson. The show examines the uncanny similarities that occur in human behavior the world over. (The Skamania Pioneer [Stevenson], 3-11-09)

Economy/Hard Times:

Whether you agree with the federal stimulus package or not, some of those funds could be coming to Colville. One project is a request for $10 million for the Colville Public Library addition and redesign. (Statesman-Examiner [Colville], 3-4-09)
