Beyond the cover – Shelton library addresses changing reader needs
When people hear the word library, they often conjure images of quiet, stuffy rooms filled with books and dust. The Shelton Timberland Library is so much more. “The future of the library, in my opinion, is as a community space, solving community issues,” said Senior Library Manager Patty Ayala Ross. “If we don’t show our relevance to our community, we won’t be viable.” The Shelton library shows its relevance through providing community outreach and being at the table to solve community issues, Ross said. Library brick laying
The Library Foundation hosted a brick laying at the Anacortes Public Library recently. People can donate to the Library Foundation to have a brick engraved for themselves or a loved one. Bricks are engraved after a group of five or six is collected. (Anacortes American, Anacortes, 5/6/15)

Residents gathered May 3 at the Village Green to see the start of the community center/library project. Construction started on the community center, which, in less than a year, will be home to a senior center, a Boys & Girls Club, and a new Kitsap Regional Library branch. This editorial shared parts of a discussion on a recent Facebook thread including the following suggestion: ”A new downtown library. The Olympia Timberland Library is the 12th busiest library in Washington State. Young MV library patrons win contest
The Mount Vernon City Library recently announced the winners of its annual Create a Bookmark Contest for children. This year’s theme was Every Hero Has a Story. Alexandra Lammon, Thomas Malloy, and Jack Gayle were the winners. Hannah Dutton received an honorable mention as the Librarian’s Choice winner. Each winner was presented a $20 gift certificate donated by Easton’s Books. (Skagit Valley Herald, Mount Vernon, 4/26/15)
