For those of you who want to file an initiative to the 2010 Legislature, today is your lucky day. It's the first day that citizens can file such initiatives with the Secretary of State's Elections Division. So far, no such initiatives have been filed, and there is no word on any initiatives to be filed in the coming days.

If someone wants to file an initiative to the Legislature, he or she can do so in person at our Elections Division office (520 Union Ave. in Olympia). If you file your initiative in person, ask for Teresa Glidden or, in her absence, Randy Newton.

You can also file an initiative via snail mail:
Office of Secretary of State/Elections Division
Attn: Initiatives
PO Box 40237
Olympia, WA 98504-0237

You’ll need to pay a $5 filing fee, provide the initiative text and provide an affidavit (check out info here) .

Here is a link to the state law that explains the filing of initiatives and referenda.
