The event is chronicled in Reynolds’ 2001 history of the State Library, Dynamics of Change. The State Library also holds the source materials for the book, which include additional photographs of the meeting, not included in the book. A description of the collection is available in the WSL catalog. A recent Washington State Archives Facebook post provides additional pictures from John Glenn’s visit to the Seattle World’s Fair. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) 2017 WLA CONFERENCE PROPOSALS SOLICITED Program proposals are now being accepted for ALL 2017 Washington Library Association Conferences. Organizations selected to participate in the program receive a grant, educational and promotional materials, and access to online training resources and opportunities. Approximately 75 organizations from across the country will be selected. Funding ranges from $5,000 to $20,000. 13 new titles have been added to the Big Read list this year. Approximately 60 grants of $500 each will be awarded to qualifying teachers and librarians at public schools and libraries across the United States. “For almost 30 years it has been our joy to award Mini-Grants to support teachers and librarians who reach beyond the standard curriculum—creating programs that inspire and encourage students in a creative and cooperative context,” says Deborah Pope, Executive Director of the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation. “It is essential that educators have resources to create these special programs, and this year we’ve revamped our application to make it even easier for them to apply for funding.” To learn more about Mini-Grants, including this year’s criteria, visit Ezra Jack Keats Mini-Grants.
