Introducing Library Giving Day

Libraries are all about sharing. Public libraries are based on the idea that one book can be shared with many. This simple notion forms the foundation of a public library’s mission and goals. Modern libraries offer much more than books, but the idea of equal access for all has never changed.

In Washington state, we have a strong library system, but not every community has the time or expertise to tackle fundraising.

Last year, leaders of the Seattle Public Library Foundation had an idea to share their expertise in fundraising — that's true library spirit! The foundation created a toolkit that all public libraries could use, including small libraries without nonprofit support foundations, and organized a movement that will take flight with the first Library Giving Day on April 10, 2019.

#LibraryGivingDay is a one-day fundraising event held during National Library Week. The goal is to encourage people who depend on and enjoy public libraries to donate in support of the incredible programs, services, and materials provided by local libraries all over the country.

Founded by Seattle Public Library Foundation and their partners at Carl Bloom Associates, Library Giving Day has been joined by libraries across North America.

Visit the Library Giving Day site to learn some great reasons to support your local library on April 10.
