World Book Online

World Book Online is an ever changing product containing reference material for all ages.

World Book Online is designed to be Easy to Access, Easy to Maintain, Easy to Use and Ongoing Updating!!

This product differs from the World Book that is offered through Bell & Howell's ProQuest.  The ProQuest version of World Book has only a "static" form of World Book's 1997 Text, no additional articles or periodical links, contains no pictures, maps, multimedia, teacher/parent resources and web links, and it is not updated.

2. What are the hardware and software requirements for using all the features of the product?

Netscape 3.04 and above or Internet Explorer 3.02 and above. You must have JavaScript, cookies or non-shared IP address. Contact your local rep for additional requirements.

3. Is remote access included for the subscription price?  If there are additional charges or requirements in order to offer remote access, please describe.   What methods of remote access are supported?

NO. Remote access under certain circumstances may be available, please contact rep to determine qualifications.

4. Please discuss any methods or assistance you offer regarding remote access patron verification and authentication.

5. What end user delivery options, such as printing, emailing or faxing results, are available beyond just viewing results on the computer monitor?

World Book Online offers printing either the entire article or selected sections. By mid-September, e-mailing to home will be available.

6. What customer training is provided, and at what cost?

FREE training to all library and school staff. Plus a help section is available with every subscription.

7. What customer and technical support is provided, including hours of operation.

At the bottom of "Behind the Headlines" is a link to Frequently Ask Questions. This section is very helpful should you be experiencing problems, it also contains a complete listing of technical support numbers and email addresses.

8. Describe the statistics you provide, and discuss whether your statistical reporting complies with guidelines developed by the International Coalition of Library Consortia which may be found at www.library.yale.edu/consortia/webstats.html .

Currently we are not providing this information, however after the first of the year the company will begin to provide some data. Sorry at this time we are not sure what that data will be.

9. Describe your pricing structure or formula for the product. If there are additional costs for retrieving full text, describe the pricing for this service. 

Public and private schools are based on FTE. Public Libraries are priced per building. Colleges are priced per building unless they want student access in the campus dorms, then it is priced on FTE and building.

Prices:
1. Public Libraries $525
2. Small Libraries that serve a community with population under 750 - Free (this does not apply to branch libraries of larger systems)
3. College Libraries $695
4. Colleges with student access .35 per student and the library fee (see above)
5. Schools .50 per student all FTE  (not all schools in a district need to enroll for this price)

10. What is the minimum participation level (however you care to define it) that would be needed to allow participating libraries to receive a discount? What is the minimum discount for a group buy? Please clarify how you would treat existing library customers with regard to a group buy.

There is no set number on how many have to enroll to get these prices. All orders must be received by December 1st, 1999 to obtain these discount prices.
