Note from the Washington State Library: In order to participate in the
Winter 2002 Washington State Databases Trial, each vendor was asked to
address questions the Statewide Database Licensing Committee felt were
most critical in order for library staff to evaluate products and vendors.
Please contact the vendor's representative, listed below, for additional
information on this product.
1. Describe the database product(s).
If you want us to link to more than one product, provide a unique description
for each product. Be sure we know what information belongs with each product.
If there are special hardware or software needs, please make sure you include
them in this description. When you provide a description of your product, please
go beyond the typical advertising brochure text. We are hoping for a thoughtful,
descriptive paragraph that will enable someone unfamiliar with your product
to understand the nature and coverage of your product. The more concise the
description, the better.
BOOKS IN PRINT.com - The most comprehensive, authoritative database
of bibliographic information.
Books in Print.com will provide you with over 4 million in print &
out of print titles detailed in three formats - print, audio and video
and is searchable on over 40 different fields. The Books in Print database
will allow library staff to become more efficient in their collection
development, acquisition and reference efforts. This database now provides
over 60,000 Table of Contents, 650,000 full-text reviews and over 700,000
annotations which will provide staff members with all the information
needed to make more informed decisions on titles they wish to receive.
Books in Print.com also provides you with stock availability on over
20 vendors, such as B&T, Blackwell and Brodart, provides the capability
to download files into your library automation system or order directly
through Brodart (coming in March). Other features such as Hooks to Holdings
will allow patrons and staff to compare titles they find in the BIP
database to those titles that are listed in the library's online catalog.
If a title is not found, the "list" feature will allow the
user to compile a wish list and share it with other staff members or
request that a certain title is purchased. BOOKS IN PRINT.com - It's
not just in print books - it's the tool which will make library staff
and patron's become more efficient in finding the information they require.

from the web site.
6. Describe
your pricing structure or formula for the product. If there are additional
costs for retrieving full text, describe the pricing for this service.
(Note: This question means - we want to know what your list prices are
and how you calculate your prices: Based on FTEs? On buildings? On a combination,
or on something else?)
If you cannot provide a standard
price list that would enable each library to understand their cost to
subscribe, then for each product you must tell us the list price that
you would charge these hypothetical libraries.
