Note from the Washington State Library: In order to participate in the
Winter 2002 Washington State Databases Trial, each vendor was asked to
address questions the Statewide Database Licensing Committee felt were
most critical in order for library staff to evaluate products and vendors.

1. Describe the database product(s).
If you want us to link to more than one product, provide a unique description
for each product. Be sure we know what information belongs with each product.
If there are special hardware or software needs, please make sure you include
them in this description. When you provide a description of your product, please
go beyond the typical advertising brochure text. We are hoping for a thoughtful,
descriptive paragraph that will enable someone unfamiliar with your product
to understand the nature and coverage of your product. The more concise the
description, the better.
Jones e-global library offers a comprehensive suite of online research
tools that can expand or extend your library, providing researchers
with targeted, online research guidance and academically appropriate
Internet-based resources. Developed by a team of more than 40 professional
librarians with subject expertise, each resource is updated regularly
to ensure quality, accuracy, and currency. In addition to these core
services, our college, university and K-12 clients can choose to include
our On-Call Reference librarian (available seven days a week to students,
faculty and library staff) in their e-global library suite of tools.
College and university libraries can also opt to access to a core collection
of key research databases, including bibliographic, directory, and data-focused
resources. This is an especially beneficial resource for smaller institutions
wishing to offer a broad range of research databases. Whether you need
an entire virtual library solution or selected elements to complement
existing offerings, we can help.
2. Is remote access included for
the subscription price? If there are additional charges or requirements in order
to offer remote access, please describe. What methods of remote access are supported?
If applicable, please discuss any methods or assistance you offer regarding
remote access patron verification and authentication.
Remote access is included in the subscription price. Remote access
can be accomplished through usernames and passwords, IP verification,
or referral from a secure remote web address.
3. What customer training is provided,
and at what cost? Please include "freebies" such as Web-based tutorials,
end-user documentation tents, cheat-sheets, etc.
Each subscribing institution will have access to a personal account
manager who will provide introductory training to your librarians and
on-going customer service at no additional charge. Your Account Manager
will also assist with customizing the e-global resource so that it meets
your library's specific needs. In addition, the library comes equipped
with an online tutorial designed specifically to orient users to the
resources and services of e-global library.
4. What customer and technical support
is provided, including hours of operation? In your reply, please include contact
names (if applicable) or name of department, the phone numbers and e-mail addresses
for your support services. If you have toll-free access to these support centers,
please make sure they are available here.
You, your students, and faculty will have access to technical support
from our Customer Service Department (via e-mail or phone) 24 hours
a day, seven days a week.

5. Please describe the statistics you provide,
and discuss whether your statistical reporting complies in part or in
whole with the guidelines developed by the International Coalition of
Library Consortia found at http://www.library.yale.edu/consortia/webstats.html
Statistical reporting capabilities are currently in development. We
will include consideration of the ICLC guidelines in our technical design.
6. Describe
your pricing structure or formula for the product. If there are additional
costs for retrieving full text, describe the pricing for this service.

and how you calculate your prices: Based on FTEs? On buildings? On a combination,
or on something else?)

price list that would enable each library to understand their cost to
subscribe, then for each product you must tell us the list price that
you would charge these hypothetical libraries.

We offer flexibility with our pricing model to offer fair and competitive
rates across a number of client populations. We base our pricing on
FTEs for higher education and secondary institutions and on population
served for public libraries. We also allow public libraries and corporate
libraries the option to purchase a number of simultaneous users. To
meet the varied needs of our client libraries, we offer several different
packages as well as optional features that can be added to augment services.
If you cannot provide a standard price list that would enable each
library to understand their cost to subscribe, then for each product
you must tell us the list price that you would charge these hypothetical

7. If a library subscribes to any of your products
as a result of this trial, will their future subscription rates continue
to reflect any savings or discount they may receive today?
Libraries that choose to take advantage of e-global library services
as a result of this trial will continue to receive the incentives that
are afforded to Washington libraries.
8. What is the minimum participation
level (however you care to define it) that would be needed to allow participating
libraries to receive a discount? What is the minimum discount for a group buy?
How will you treat existing library customers with regard to a group buy?
We do not have a minimum participation level. However, additional discounts
may be offered based on the level of participation. Existing library
customers will be offered the same discount as new customers, retroactive
to the start of their current license.
