Before Initiative 1240 sponsors can begin collecting signatures for their initiative to allow charter schools in Washington, they are asking a Thurston County judge to slightly tweak the wording of the measure’s concise description and measure summary.

The challenge will be heard by Thurston County Superior Court Judge Lisa Sutton this Friday at 10:30 a.m. Go here to view the challenge to the ballot title for I-1240.

The Washington Education Association also has gone to the court to challenge the ballot title and summary of the charter schools initiative.

Once they get the legal green light, the I-1240 sponsors have until July 6 to collect at least 241,153 valid signatures of registered Washington voters. If it qualifies, the initiative will appear on this fall’s General Election ballot.
