Walla Walla Public Library is the proud recipient of CrewSpace, an innovative program that enables teens to learn the art of filmmaking. At the next First Tuesdays program, Jeffrey Townsend, CrewSpace at Walla Walla Public Library filmmaker, who worked with Walla Walla’s teens, will share information on the project and its effect on the community. Designed as a continuing education opportunity for staff of libraries in Washington State, this free web presentation, which will take place on May 6, 2014, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. PDT, lets attendees share their skills and successes and learn about new topics. During Preservation Week, libraries all over the country present events, activities, and resources that highlight what we can do, individually and together, to preserve our personal and shared collections. The University of Washington Libraries will be hosting the following events as part of the celebration:
- April 29: Low-Cost Ways to Preserve Family Archives;
- May 1: Preserving Scrapbooks.
- When: Tuesday, April 29, 2014, from 6:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. PDT;

- May 15 – Learning spaces in libraries;
- June 5 – STEM learning.
- Converting an unused, grassy stretch of land outside the library into a small park, with benches and shade umbrellas, where people can read or visit outdoors;
- Turning a library parking lot into a public market space for weekend use;
- Using a park adjoining the library for community concerts or public storytelling events.
- Consultation and support from OCLC and Project for Public Spaces on event and space design, event planning, and material selection;
- Selection of up to $5000 in reusable materials provided by Redbox.
