Kettle Falls to expand library
The City of Kettle Falls is planning to expand its library facilities this summer to include new study areas, a new community area, and bathroom upgrades. The city was recently awarded a $750,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce for the project. The grant, which requires matching funds from the community, has found financial support from a $40,000 contribution from the Friends of the Kettle Falls Library and $13,500 from the City of Kettle Falls. $1M lab for books in Suzzallo Library
The University of Washington plans to start work in June on a 4,000-square-foot lab for staff to conserve books and papers. The lab will be on the fifth floor of Suzzallo Library on the Seattle campus. (Daily Journal of Commerce, Seattle, 4/27/15)

Puppet show fills library with laughs from appreciative audience
The North Central Regional Library Puppeteers performed three skits at the Waterville Library on March 31. The puppeteers, Mark Wavra and Brian Higgins, visited seven NCRL branches during spring break, and will make a more extensive tour over the summer. Digital Literacy workshops now available through the Ritzville Library
Last October, the Ritzville Public Library received $6,121 from the Washington State Library, using Library Services and Technology Act grant funds provided by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services. The grant funds paid for eight laptops that the library plans to take to various locations throughout Ritzville and surrounding areas in the next few months to put on a series of hands-on classes. The grant will also provide funding to hire knowledgeable presenters on specific topics and bring programs to the library’s patrons. (Ritzville-Adams County Journal, Ritzville, 4/9/15)
Sno-Isle Libraries Reading Challenge ends in tie
Sno-Isle Libraries’ Third Grade Reading Challenge championship round at the Edmonds Community College Black Box Theater resulted in a perfect-score tie between the Maplewood K-8 Royal Readers and the Mt. Pilchuck Elementary Record Readers. The three month reading challenge began with 156 teams from 37 schools. (The Edmonds Beacon, Mukilteo, 4/9/15)

Whatcom library users enjoying new program
Whatcom County library users are taking to a new service that allows them to temporarily download or stream audiobooks, movies, TV shows, and music albums for free. Provided through hoopla digital, the service offers people access to 260,000 items for adults and children – with more being added – instantly and without having to wait for borrowed items to be returned.
