Welcome to the first installation of the Hard Times Resource Guide: Resource of the Week. Every week we'll highlight a resource we think is of particular value from our Hard Times Resource Guide. Check out these and other great resources on the Resource Guide web site: http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/hardtimes/.

This week we're highlighting a great resource in the "Finances and Money Management" section of the Guide, the Washington Financial Education Clearinghouse page made available by Washington's Department of Financial Institutions.

Check it out at http://dfi.wa.gov/financial-education/.

This resource is filled with great information. Featured resources on the page right now include financial resources for the unemployed, and tips on how to talk to your kids about the current crisis. On top of these great resources, there is further information on credit, deposit insurance, identity theft, interest rates, investment, foreclosure, mortgages, payday loans, predatory lending, and lots more!

Besides having great information and resources on their web page, the Washington Financial Education Clearinghouse can also help you find local programs for financial education, e.g. organizations in your area that provide and sponsor financial education programs. Many of these organizations are willing to come to you, and will provide training free of charge!

Further materials and publications are broken down by audience: for educators; for parents; etc, and include pamphlets and hand-outs that you can use in a class or show to your family / colleagues. A lot of information on the site is tailored to Washington State residents, which helps make all the information as topical and helpful as it can be.

Have we piqued your curiosity? Check out the Washington Financial Education Clearinghouse now at http://dfi.wa.gov/financial-education/, and don't forget to go look at the other great resources we've made available on our own Hard Times Resource Guide, available now at http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/hardtimes/.
