The Great Depression resulted in many homeless people throughout America , including in Seattle. This 1937 shot from the State Library Photograph Collection shows Hooverville, a homeless shantytown south of downtown Seattle. October is Washington Archives Month. This year’s theme is “Hard Times: Struggles, Setbacks, and Recovery in Washington.” If you go to the Washington Archives Month website, you can download the new Archives Month poster. The website features links to free workshops, FAQs, collections of interest and featured photographs.
