Come to the highly interactive workshop, All You Need to Know about E-reader services in Your Library, where you will be introduced to concepts and tools you need to implement and deliver e-reader services to library users. Find out how to:

Identify current e-content/e-reader trends in libraries;
Troubleshoot compatibility issues related to e-collections and e-reader devices;
Identify available e-collections;
Write policies related to e-readers and e-content;
Outline an implementation plan for the use of e-readers in libraries;
Discuss assessment planning for e-reader services.

All workshops will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 at the following locations:

Thursday, October 4 – Timberland Regional Library Service Center, Tumwater;
Friday, October 5 – Longview Public Library, Longview;
Tuesday, October 9 – Richland Public Library, Richland;
Wednesday, October 10 – Ritzville Public Library, Ritzville;

Bellingham Public Library has generously shared these copies, which are left over from a community read. Titles currently available are:

We need input from libraries as to which features and capabilities should be included. Please consider volunteering to serve on the project advisory committee. Committee member travel expenses will be covered; members should expect one face-to-face meeting in October, after which business will be conducted online. Sign up today for the free workshop, Are You Ready? Scenario Planning & Collaboration Among Heritage Institutions to Improve Disaster Preparedness for Collections, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Take a day to test your institution’s disaster plan to identify areas for improvement, to improve your ability to evaluate risks, and to work together with other participants to build a shared vision for regional disaster preparedness. The workshop instructor is Gary Menges, Librarian Emeritus, University of Washington, and WESTPAS trainer. Two workshops in the state of Washington have been scheduled for the month of October:

MERIT (the Managed Education and Registry Information Tool) is Washington State’s early learning professional development registry, an online tool designed to assist early learning professionals in various ways. Public libraries can play a key role in assisting their early learning communities in accessing and using MERIT. Topics to be covered in the webinar will include:
