Library board trustee position open
The Denny Ashby Library Board of Trustees has an opening for a Garfield County resident who cares about libraries and is interested in actively promoting the library in the community. Applications were due on December 28, 2015. The library board will review the applications and make recommendations to the Garfield County Commissioners for appointment. Library late fees won’t be capped
Starting January 1, 2016, Pend Oreille County libraries will not cap the overdue fees on materials. Currently the fees are capped at $3.00, no matter how long overdue. The library charges 10 cents per day for books, audio books, and CDs and $2.00 per day for DVDs or videos. (Newport Miner, Newport, 12/2/15) CORRECTION: This article incorrectly stated that Pend Oreille County libraries will charge late fees of $2.00 per day for DVDs or videos. They printed a retraction to correct the error. All late fees are 10 cents per day including those for DVDs and videos (per email from Lori Slover, Library Director, on December 31, 2015).
Library seeks input on long range plan
Whitman County Library Board of Trustees is seeking input and comments from residents on a proposed long range plan for the library district. The recently updated plan can be found at the library’s website at www.whitco.lib.wa.us or by visiting any of the district’s 14 locations. BOCC seeking library trustee post
The Lewis County Board of County Commissioners accepted applications for a trustee position representing Lewis County on the Timberland Regional Library board. The appointment will serve a seven-year term. The application deadline was December 28, 2015. (The East County Journal, Morton, 12/16/15)
Drive through library
The Forks Library was not such a quiet place on the evening of Monday, December 7 as a car attempted to make it a drive-through library. According to Forks Police Administrator Rick Bart, an unlicensed 16-year-old male driver, driving the family car, hit the gas instead of the brake. Work to repair the damage was underway the following day. (Forks Forum, Forks, 12/17/15)
