A newly released Human Development Index puts Washington state among the highest ranked states and countries when it comes to literacy, education, life expectancy, per capita GDP and the promise of good jobs, health care and good schools. The USA ranks 15th among the nations and when Washington state is blended into the list, we rank very well, tied for 11th with Switzerland, France, Vermont and Alaska.

The "Measure of America" report was published by Columbia University Press, the Social Science Research Council. Sponsors include Oxfam America, Hilton Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation and others.
