Due to popular demand, the Washington State Library (WSL) is pleased to offer additional sessions of Ellumination! Introduction to Elluminate. These session are 45-60 minutes each and will give participants the opportunity to practice using the Elluminate interface and webtools.

WSL and the Washington Library Association (WLA) recently switched from Wimba to Elluminate for online meetings and trainings. Subscribe to the e-mail version of Clippings on the WSL e-mail distribution list page: www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/lists or read Clippings on our blog: blogs.sos.wa.gov/library. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) LSSC PORTFOLIO MENTORS AND EVALUATORS SOUGHT The American Library Association Allied Professional Association (ALA-APA) Library Support Staff Certification (LSSC) Program is recruiting librarians to evaluate online portfolios and to serve as portfolio mentors. Portfolio evaluators will assess completed portfolios and, working with the LSSC staff, present evaluation results to the candidate. Evaluators must participate in a short training session either in person at an ALA conference or meeting, or participate in an online webinar. Evaluators volunteer their time. Portfolio mentors will help LSSC candidates prepare an acceptable portfolio by reviewing draft portfolio submissions by email and by suggesting improvements to candidate's portfolio. Join Meg Canada, Senior Librarian, Social Media and Public Training Coordinator at Hennepin County Library (MN) to learn about Twitter and Facebook and how they can fit into your library's outreach, marketing, and programming efforts. Sure you don't have to fret about what you're wearing or if you're going to trip while on stage, but you do have to think about how to engage and interact with your audience-all while you cannot see them! "Beyond Slideshows: Influence Decisions With Effectively Planned And Delivered Web-Based Presentations" is the full title of this free Elluminate webinar, presented by Roger Courville, author of the new book, The Virtual Presenter's Handbook. Do you find legal reference questions difficult, challenging, or downright terrifying? Look no further! RIG presents "Legal Reference in Non-Law Libraries" with Cheryl Nyberg and Nancy McMurrer, reference librarians at University of Washington Gallagher Law Library. Learn about the major sources of legal authority (cases, laws, and regulations), free Internet sources, and strategies for handling legal reference questions. Two experienced law librarians will demystify the world of legal information by explaining the types of legal authority and their relationships. With skills practice and audience participation, they will discuss strategies for successful reference interviews and will focus on U.S. federal and Washington State law, with brief references to comparable sources for the laws of other U.S. states. Registrants will be asked to give examples of questions and situations ahead of time so that presenters can tailor the workshop to the needs of participants.

Visit www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/CE for more information. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) ATTEND THE OCLC AMERICAS REGIONAL COUNCIL MEETING You may have heard that OCLC is being governed in a new way, with input from three regions that cover the world. The Americas Regional Council (ARC) is meeting for the first time at ALA on June 24-25, 2010. If you are going to ALA you can attend in person; otherwise you can watch much of the meeting streamed over the web. After the event, the recording will be posted on www.oclc.org. The ARC offers an open forum to discuss issues of importance to the OCLC cooperative and advises OCLC about its products, services, policies and operating direction. The ARC is also one of three bodies that elect delegates to the OCLC Global Council. Join the ARC Executive Committee, members of the OCLC Board of Trustees, and OCLC management at this two-part annual meeting for interactive discussions and breakout sessions. New Global Council delegates and ARC Executive Committee members will be introduced. This is a great opportunity to provide input on OCLC policies and services and meet the delegates that represent you on the Global Council. Most sessions are presented by staff from member libraries on topics such as federated searching, record use, and pricing principles.
