Participants will learn how to:

Create effective, fun, and relevant book art and writing programs for youth in both public and school libraries;
Make artistic books from start to finish;
Develop and expand upon skills in a range of creative writing genres;
Run a successful writing competition.

Workshops have been scheduled for two locations:

Saturday, May 7, 2011, KCLS: Bellevue Library, Bellevue
Saturday, May 21, 2011, Ellensburg Public Library, Ellensburg

Washington Connection is a web-based benefit portal that makes it easier for people to screen and apply for benefits. Learn how to use this portal to enhance services for your community. It’s a challenge because our communities often have different ideas of what a library is and how we should serve them. It’s an adventure because it often seems like the entire world is passing through our doors! No matter where you fall in the continuum of cultural awareness, Providing Library Services Across Cultures, presented by Yolanda Cuestas, will:

Increase your understanding of how people from different cultures view the library experience;
Increase your awareness of how cultural differences can impact the what and how of library services;
Help you to develop strategies for communicating more effectively with multicultural customers.

To register, visit www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/Multicultural. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) GRANTS FOR HUMANITIES COLLECTIONS The Division of Preservation and Access of the National Endowment for the Humanities will be accepting applications for grants in its Humanities Collections and Reference Resources program. These grants support projects to preserve and create intellectual access to such collections as books, journals, manuscript and archival materials, maps, still and moving images, sound recordings, art, and objects of material culture. Awards also support the creation of reference materials, online resources, and research tools of major importance to the humanities. Applications that address the preservation and access needs of humanities collections of sound recordings and moving images are especially encouraged. Maximum awards are $350,000 for up to three years.
