Training sessions are available for the following dates and times:

Wednesday, February 6, 2013, 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. PST;
Thursday, February 7, 2013, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. PST;
Thursday, February 7, 2013, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. PST.

For additional information and to register, visit www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/FebTrustee. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) OCLC LAUNCHES NEW ILL SERVICE OCLC has announced that the current WorldCat Resource Sharing interlibrary loan (ILL) service is being replaced by a new service, OCLC WorldShare™ Interlibrary Loan, in 2013. WorldShare™ Interlibrary Loan will deliver new and expanded functionality that supports evolving workflow changes such as the option to purchase needed materials instead of borrow them. Initial release of the new service is planned for March 2013. Between March and December 2013, the WorldCat Resource Sharing and WorldShare Interlibrary Loan services will operate in parallel. Access to WorldCat Resource Sharing is scheduled to end December 31, 2013. The following transition schedule for Washington libraries currently enrolled in the Washington OCLC Group Services contract has been planned with consideration for seasonal activity levels by library type:

Public libraries: March and April 2013;
Academic and school libraries: July and August 2013.

Beta Phi Mu Award – for distinguished service to education in librarianship by a faculty member of a library school or an individual;
Melvil Dewey Medal – to recognize recent creative professional achievement in library management, training, cataloging, and classification, or the tools and techniques of librarianship;
Paul Howard Award for Courage – to honor a librarian, library board, library group, or individual for exhibiting unusual courage benefiting library programs or services;
Scholastic Library Publishing Award – to honor a librarian whose “unusual contribution to the stimulation and guidance of reading by children and young people” exemplifies outstanding achievement in the profession;
Sullivan Award for Public Library Administrators Supporting Services to Children – to recognize an individual with general management/supervisory/administrative responsibility, who has shown exceptional understanding and support of library service to children.

Note that although the online application forms show a December 1, 2012 date, applications will be accepted through February 15, 2013. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) $10,000 AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING LIBRARY PR ALA is still accepting submissions for the John Cotton Dana Award, which honors outstanding library public relations. Each of the eight successful applicants will receive cash development grants of $10,000. Entries may be submitted by any library, Friends group, consulting agency, or service provider. Examples of outstanding library public relations could include:

Rebranding efforts;
Summer reading programs;
Promotion of unique archives;
Awareness campaigns;
Fundraising for a new college library;
Innovative community partnerships.

The award is managed by the Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) division of ALA, and sponsored by the H.W.
