This second round of funds was used for a multi-year research project, Library as Instructional Leader, to document the impacts of information literacy on developmental education students. At the next First Tuesdays program, Lynne Kanne, project coordinator will share:

How discipline faculty was engaged to help define and assess the information needs of students;
How a network of community and technical college (CTC) librarians shared best practices around the teaching of information literacy to students;
How sustained collaboration between discipline faculty and librarians enabled both groups to develop and assess information literacy assignments that result in greater learning outcomes.

Be entered into a random drawing to win a YALSA tote bag full of 2012 and 2013 YA titles;
Receive an elite digital badge to show others how well-read you are!

The challenge will end on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 8:59 p.m. PDT. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) 25^th ANNUAL EZRA JACK KEATS MINIGRANTS Public education is one of the greatest legacies of our country, benefiting children from every walk of life. For Ezra Jack Keats, it was at public school that he received his greatest encouragement to pursue his vocation as an artist and at the public library where he found a haven that introduced him to the wonders of art history. To provide a similar experience to new generations, the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation created a funding initiative called Minigrants, in which awards of $500 are given to public schools and public libraries for projects that foster creative expression, collaboration, and interaction with a diverse community. To celebrate the 25^th year of its Minigrant Program, the Foundation will be awarding approximately 70 grants of $500 each to qualifying teachers and librarians at public schools and libraries across the United States. This year’s theme, Check in @ your library, encourages libraries to throw open their physical and virtual doors to teens and showcase the outstanding technology they offer, from services such as online homework help and digital literacy-focused programs, to resources such as e-books, movies, music, audiobooks, and databases. To find out more and to sign up, go to teentechweek.ning.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) GRANTS FOR CATALOGING HIDDEN SPECIAL COLLECTIONS Libraries, archives, and cultural institutions hold millions of items that have never been adequately described. This represents a staggering volume of materials that are unknown and inaccessible to researchers. The Cataloging Hidden Special Collections and Archives grants, administered by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) with the generous support of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, seeks to address this problem by awarding grants that will make possible an innovative, efficient means of making these materials available to scholars.
