Webinar information: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) THE RAINS HAVE RETURNED – BE PREPARED It’s that time of year again, when heavy downpours can turn creeks into raging rivers. Recent floods in Colorado have displaced thousands of Coloradans and have damaged treasured family heirlooms. In response to that disaster, the State Heritage Emergency Partnership has compiled a website of resources to help both residents and cultural heritage institutions in any location to prepare and recover in the aftermath of a flood. To find out more, visit heritagepreservation.org/PROGRAMS/flood.html. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) BUILD-A-BEAR GRANT OPPORTUNITY Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc. is accepting grant applications as part of its annual giving program. The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation supports charities in the US and Canada through grant programs including Literacy and Education Grants that provide support for children in literacy and education programs such as summer reading programs, early childhood education programs, and literacy programs for children with special needs. Grants are a one-time contribution, and range from $1,000 to $5,000. The average grant is $1,500. The application deadline is October 31, 2013. For more information or to apply, visit sos.wa.gov/q/bear. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) ALA TRAVELING EXHIBITION – CHANGING AMERICA The American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office, in collaboration with the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) and the National Museum of American History, invites applications from public, academic, and special libraries; small museums; and historical societies for the traveling exhibition Changing America: The Emancipation Proclamation, 1863 and the March on Washington, 1963. The traveling exhibition tour is made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH): Exploring the human endeavor. Changing America will help public audiences understand and discuss the relationship between two great peoples' movements that resulted in the Emancipation Proclamation, and the March on Washington in 1963. Participants selected will be required to present an opening event and at least two public humanities programs for adult audiences related to exhibition themes and presented by qualified humanities scholars. Fifty sites will be selected to present the exhibition in their communities for a period of six weeks. All sites selected for the project will receive a grant of $1,700 from the ALA, with funding provided by NEH, for expenses related to public programs. A planning webinar/workshop and online program resources will be available for all selected sites. The tour and programs will begin in January 2014 and continue through December 2017. Find out at Library 2.013, the 3rd annual virtual conference being held October 18 – 19, 2013, around the clock in multiple languages and time zones. Everyone is invited to participate in this free forum designed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among information professionals worldwide. Eight conference strands will cover a wide variety of timely topics such as:

  • E-books;
  • Makerspaces;
  • Mobile services;
  • Embedded librarians;
  • Green libraries.
