Approximately $300,000 is available to support one or more new ideas for projects/activities that are statewide in scope. Ideas may target specific needs, take advantage of emerging technology or other opportunities, or target a specific segment or user group of the Washington library community. Resulting projects could range from technical assistance and training, to the development of services and collaborative efforts, to competitive grant programs. The strongest ideas will be consistent with both the LCW priorities and guiding principles. LCW has identified the following specific priorities as critical to the advancement of library services, or as filling gaps in service that need to be addressed at a statewide level. (Note: Priorities are not listed in any particular order.):
- Advance applied literacy in the state of Washington in areas such as legal research, health information, employment/job searching, and developing civic/voter education resources;
- Enhance libraries' relevancy in a democratic society;
- Serve underserved, unserved, and culturally diverse communities and populations.
