This is a reminder of key dates related to your use of WorldShare Interlibrary Loan:

  • April 14, 2014: All new ILL Requests begin in WorldShare ILL. Starting April 14, 2014, WorldCat Resource Sharing (WCRS) will no longer support the initiation of new ILL requests.
  • May 19, 2014: End of access to WorldCat Resource Sharing. Use of the WorldCat Resource Sharing service will end completely on May 19. From this date, all OCLC ILL transactions will be managed through WorldShare Interlibrary Loan.
Some resources to support your use of WorldShare ILL are:
  • Training: OCLC provides many opportunities for you to learn how to use WorldShare ILL. Learn more about training resources, including many instructor-led virtual training sessions at oc.lc/illtraining.
  • Documentation: Resources are available at oc.lc/wsilldoc.
  • Member stories: Most WorldCat Resource Sharing users now use WorldShare Interlibrary Loan for all or part of their ILL activity. You can learn from the experiences of some WorldShare ILL users at oclc.org/worldshare-ill/success.en.html.

OCLC’s WorldShare ILL experts are ready to help you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) 2014 RECORDED BOOKS RENEWAL For many participating libraries, the Recorded Books OneClickdigital renewal takes effect on April 1, 2014. List prices for public and academic libraries remain unchanged, but LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) subsidy funding drops from 40% to 20%. This will be the last year for LSTA subsidies for this project. Prices for K-12 school libraries will increase by 10% but still remain well below the vendor’s normal list pricing for schools. Public and academic library subscriptions will be renewed automatically unless a library submits a cancellation form by March 28, 2014. K-12 libraries need to submit a purchase order, or contact Recorded Books directly.   • The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt – 9 copies;
  • The Big Burn: Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire that Saved America by Timothy Egan – 19 audio CDs;
  • The History of Love by Nicole Krauss – 10 copies;
  • Stories for Boys: A Memoir by Gregory Martin – 200 copies;
  • Gap Creek: A Novel by Robert Morgan – 10 copies;
  • Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books by Azar Nafisi – 9 copies;
  • Where’d You Go, Bernadette: A Novel by Maria Semple – 200 copies;
  • Where’d You Go, Bernadette: A Novel by Maria Semple – 10 large print copies;
  • The Help by Kathryn Stockett – 10 copies;
  • This Boys’ Life: A Memoir by Tobias Wolff – 8 copies;
  • The Leisure Seeker: A Novel by Michael Zadoorian – 200 copies.
These will be distributed on a first come, first served basis at no charge to the requestor. As there is high demand for these titles, please prioritize your requests. If you are interested in any of the above, please contact Carolyn Petersen at [email protected]. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) LIBRI BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD Since 1950, Libri: International Journal of Libraries and Information Services has been a leader among scholarly journals in the international library world. As part of its strategy to remain one of the premier library journals, Libri is issuing a call for "Best Student Paper of 2014." This competition supports Libri's goal of publishing the best articles from the next generation of library and information science professionals. Students at all levels are invited to submit articles, approximately 5,000 words in length, written with clarity and authority. Although there is no stated theme, research papers should address one of the significant issues facing today's librarians and information professionals. Case studies, best practices, and pure research papers are all welcome. The winning article will be published in the 2014:4 issue of Libri. Its author will be honored with an award of EUR500, and with a complimentary subscription to Libri for 2015. For additional information, go to librijournal.org/award.html. The deadline for submissions is Monday, June 30, 2014. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) ENTER THE BEST OF SHOW COMPETITION The annual Best of Show at PR Xchange recognizes the very best public relations materials produced by libraries during the 2013 calendar year. This contest is sponsored by LLAMA (the Library Leadership Administration and Management Association), a division of ALA, and its PRMS (Public Relations and Marketing Section) group, and is overseen by the PR XChange (formerly known as Swap and Shop) Committee. Original materials, such as brochures, book bags, flyers, booklists, bookmarks, etc., may be submitted for any of the following categories:
  • Advocacy;
  • Annual Reports/Strategic Plans;
  • Bibliographies/Booklists/Materials Promoting Collections;
  • Calendars of Events/Newsletters;
