The theme “Prism of Possibilities: Lighting the Future” reflects a conference of information, ideas, and inspiration. Registration is now open with early bird pricing ending October 1. For application details: http://www.wla.org/wale-scholarship-2014 WALE is a Washington Library Association Interest Group. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) FREE ONLINE SKILLPORT CLASSES NOW AVAILABLE Washington State Library is partnering with WebJunction to offer additional courses to all library staff in Washington. These non-library specific courses are delivered by Skillport. Funding for these courses is provided by WSL through the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). There are 450 courses available including: Dealing with Irrational Customers and Escalating Complaints; Improving Your Emotional Intelligence Skills: Self-awareness and Self-management; Giving Feedback; Leadership Essentials: Motivating Employees; and Creating a Positive Attitude. To access your free Skillport classes, follow these instructions:
- Go to http://webjunction.skillport.com/
- Click on the Register link near the bottom of the page. Complete all fields of the registration form, making sure to select your correct State Library Sponsor. Affirm and submit the form. You will receive an email acknowledging your request. Within 2 working days or less, you will receive a notice of approval or disapproval. If approved, you can now log in and start learning. (Note that if log in gets stuck the first time you try, use the Click Here link provided to test your browser and plug-ins for compatibility with Skillport and the online courses.)
