HS 21+ is a competency-based high school equivalency program for adult learners 21 and older who do not have a high school diploma or equivalency. Adults demonstrate competencies in core subject areas through existing transcript credits, as well as credit for work, life, military experience, learning portfolios, and testing. The program expands high school completion options already offered by the Community & Technical Colleges (CTC) system. Most of the needed coursework is available online via Canvas, the online learning platform used by Washington CTCs. For more information on High School 21+, use this link: sos.wa.gov/q/HS-21. WSL’s November 3, 9:00 a.m. First Tuesdays webinar will feature Troy Goracke, HS 21+ program administrator. Many CTCs offer additional programs that provide similar services for students age 16-21. According to the SBCTC web site: “Most Washington State community and technical colleges operate one or more high school programs such as High School Completion, Technical High School, Credit Retrieval, Youth Re-engagement, External Diploma Program or other high school options. The goal of each of these various programs is to award a high school diploma to students who complete the graduation requirements.” After careful review and investigation, the State Library suggests Washington libraries consider promoting these locally developed programs for adult high school completion. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) 2015 WALE CONFERENCE REGISTRATION OPEN Registration is now open for the 2015 WALE Conference: Book to the Future. Washington Library Employees (WALE) announces their annual conference at Campbell's Lake Resort on Lake Chelan on October 26-28, 2015. Early Bird registration rates are available through September 25, 2015. The purpose of the conference is to build a communication network among library employees, encourage continuing education for library personnel and improve library service through skill development.
