From Your Corner of Washington: Loud at CenturyLink Field

Sunday night’s division showdown between the Seahawks and the 49ers not only was a resounding 29-3 win for the Hawks, it was a record-breaking triumph for their LOUD fans, the legendary 12th Man.
For months, Hawks fan were urged to break the world record for stadium noise during the much-anticipated home opener at CenturyLink Field against the defending NFC champion Niners. The 12th Man was up to the task, setting the new mark when Seattle defensive lineman Michael Bennett sacked 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick with 1:15 left in the first quarter. The noise on that play reached 131.9 decibels, passing the previous mark of 131.76 by a soccer crowd in Istanbul, Turkey.
But that new standard for sound didn’t last long. Midway through the third quarter, during the Hawks’ successful goal-line stand that forced the Niners to kick a field goal, the noise by the announced crowd of 68,338 (the largest ever for a Hawks game at “the Clink”) reached a record 136.6 decibels. So congrats, 12th Man. It looks like you’re going to be in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Even Mother Nature got in the act, giving the Blue Thunder drummers competition with some real thunder late in the first quarter that forced officials to suspend the game for one hour until the lightning subsided.
