Elected in 2012, Secretary Wyman leads one of the most diverse offices in state government. Washington Library Employees (WALE) 2014 Conference will take place October 27 – 29 at Campbell’s Resort in Chelan. The theme “Prism of Possibilities: Lighting the Future” reflects a conference of information, ideas, and inspiration.

WALE is a Washington Library Association Interest Group. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) LIBRARY COUNCIL OF WASHINGTON SEEKS NEW MEMBERS The Library Council of Washington is seeking new members. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the present and future of libraries in our state. Currently, there are four openings for members in these categories: Special Libraries, Information Technology, Disadvantaged, and Four-Year Academic. Please apply for one of these positions, or encourage a colleague to do so; your ideas and contributions are needed. Library Council serves as an advocate and a catalyst for developing and implementing statewide library programs. The Council is the conduit from local communities, both geographic and demographic, which advises the State Librarian and the Secretary of State. Council is a forum where the library community can discuss issues. Our goal is to improve services to all people in Washington by encouraging and supporting cooperation and collaboration. The application period closes on September 15th. Be part of deciding where we’re going; send yours today. As such, the report also examines trends in child well-being since 1990, the year of the first report. It highlights positive policies and practices that have improved child health and development and features stories from several states on advocacy efforts that have improved outcomes for kids and families. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) BEST SMALL LIBRARY IN AMERICA AWARD NOMINATIONS DUE Library Journal’s Best Small Library in America Award was founded to encourage and showcase the exemplary work of small public libraries.
