We’ve been working on a way to make it easier to get to the items you want. Check out this video about our historic Pinterest Boards. Look for the Regional boards (e.g. The History of Southwest Washington) and see what you can learn about your particular corner of our state. Do you know of local online primary resources that would add to the collection? Please contact Nono Burling at [email protected]. Let’s work together to build an amazing resource for our state’s students, researchers, and historians. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) FIRST TUESDAYS WEBINAR SNEAK PREVIEW Making Connections through ROOTS (Researching Our Origins for Teens and Seniors)

  • Presented by Maggie Buckholz and Karen Prasse, Burlington Public Library
  • January 6, 2015 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. PST
The Burlington Public Library, in partnership with the Skagit Valley Genealogical Society, launched a pilot project to match teenagers with senior genealogists in which the teens learned how to search, collect, and record family history. Senior genealogists gained skills with mentoring, new technologies, and new worldwide cultural family history resources. The two-year project, funded by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, had positive results which exceeded the expectations of all participants. This webinar is for Teen and Adult programming staff and anyone who is interested in using genealogy to bridge generations and connect the community with the library. You’ll acquire a curriculum, tools for developing an inter-generational genealogy program, and tips for creating a meaningful experience for all participants while avoiding pitfalls. First Tuesdays is designed as a continuing-education opportunity for staff of libraries in Washington State. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) ACQUISITIONS INSTITUTE AT TIMBERLINE LODGE CALL FOR PAPERS The 2015 Acquisitions Institute at Timberline Lodge is scheduled for May 16 – May 19. The Institute is a three-day conference which focuses building and managing library collections. The Institute’s planning committee is calling for papers to be presented in 2015.
