Attend the March 3^rd First Tuesday free webinar from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. PST John Hughes, Chief Historian of Washington State’s Legacy Project, will cover the basics for how to structure a community oral history project to ensure its success. This includes tips for the questions which should be asked, tips on coaxing folks who say “I did nothing special” and tips on what type of recording equipment should be used.

The webinar will be archived for listening at a later time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) WELL-FED & WELL READ: SUMMER MEAL SITES Well-Fed and Well Read: Summer Meal Site Served by the Public/School Library free webinar coming in March. Combatting the summer learning slump experienced by lower income kids is going to take a village. One promising solution is having a summer meal site served by either a school or public library. Preliminary results from Oregon show that kids do better when they can access both services at the same site. On Tuesday, March 24^th from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., Jennifer Mitchell, Summer Food and Special Projects Specialist with OSPI, and Cecilia McGowan, Children’s Services Coordinator at the King County Library, will share tips and tricks on what it takes to set up a summer meal site and also provide library services at that site. If you are interested in joining a growing movement to provide reading materials to children via a summer feeding site, or even applying to be one, you will want to listen to this free webinar. The deadline for submissions to the Teen Video Challenge is fast approaching.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) SUPERCHARGED STORYTIMES Are you:

Passionate about early literacy at public libraries?
Interested in enhancing your current approach to storytime planning and delivery for children five years of age and younger?
Eager to work collaboratively online with your peers from other libraries to share ideas and experiences that build a growing community of practice?

If so, you are invited to become a part of the Supercharged Storytimes community through a new program offered to public library staff in Washington free of charge. Thanks to a partnership between OCLC, the Washington State Library, and Thrive Washington, and with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Supercharged Storytimes provides methods to engage children in storytimes, using tools and approaches that have been confirmed by University of Washington iSchool’s Project VIEWS2 research to directly support development of early literacy skills in children 0-5 years old. The program will introduce up to 100 public library staff from across Washington State to Supercharged Storytimes methods through a structured four-week online orientation, beginning Monday, April 6, 2015, and then continue to support participants through an online community as they implement Supercharged Storytimes in their own libraries following the orientation. The online community, hosted by WebJunction, will offer a place for participants to discuss their experience and exchange ideas, tips, and resources around Supercharged Storytimes. Please share this opportunity with your colleagues and networks. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) PACIFIC NORTHWEST HISTORIANS GUILD CONFERENCE The 28^thannual Pacific Northwest Historians Guild Conference will take place March 6-7 at Seattle Public Library’s Central Library at 1000 Fourth Avenue. The 2015 conference theme is The Urban Northwest in Landscape and Story. All events are free and open to the public, but conference organizers request attendees to register for planning purposes.

Please register by March 1, 2015.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) PERFORMANCE PARTNERSHIP PILOTS FOR DISCONNECTED YOUTH New federal funds are available through Performance Partnership Pilots (P3) for Disconnected Youth. The 2015 P3 initiative, through the Departments of Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and IMLS, will enable up to 10 pilots to test innovative, outcome-focused strategies to achieve significant improvements in educational, employment, and other key outcomes for disconnected youth. Participating federal agencies have recently updated the P3 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

Additionally, short podcasts for each of the seven selection criteria are newly available on the bottom of this page.
Applications for 2015 P3 pilots are due March 4, 2015.
