The ARSL conference is specifically targeted for rural library staff. Previous conference topics have included building community advocacy; effective trustee recruitment; inexpensive programming ideas; innovative web services with few resources; virtual networking; and many more. ARSL Conference dates are September 30th for the pre-conferences and October 1 – 3, 2015. More information about the conference is located at ARSL 2015 Conference Information. Requirements for conference scholarship eligibility:
- Must work at a small and rural library or library branch (serving 10,000 or fewer) in Washington State
- Individuals must be first time applicants who have not attended an ARSL conference
- Must commit to a follow-up project resulting from attendance at the conference
- Demonstrate willingness to share knowledge gained with fellow library/district staffers
- Show how conference attendance will help meet library's goals related to the LSTA priorities
- Signed permission from person in your organization who must approve your conference attendance
- Attend a scholarship get-together during the conference
- Identify a project to do in the attendee’s library which results from attendance at the conference
- Describe this project during a webinar one month after the conference
- Six months later, participate in a webinar to describe the results of the project
- A one to two page report will be required after the six month webinar

- Identify their own style of communication and recognize ways to tap into the strengths of others
- Discover practical ways to increase their communication as a team member
- Understand and more fully value the communication preferences of different people
- Discover how to better deal with conflict
- Learn how to build collaborative relationships with others

- Session attendees will receive an online DiSC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Conscientiousness) Profile access code prior to the training session to take their individualized assessment and bring their completed report to the session.
- Because of the DiSC assessment, class size is limited to 25 per session and we will not be able to over-fill classes.
- Each DiSC assessment has a cost associated with it so participants will need to take the assessment and attend the training.
- Cancellations are required 2 weeks in advance to allow wait-list attendees to register.
