This webinar will provide an overview of how an academic library developed a Best Practices document for its personnel in order to consistently address concerns about service animals including tailored recommendations for specific service points. Upon completion of this webinar, attendees will have new knowledge and some resources to begin this conversation within their own library.

Please email Carolyn Petersen at [email protected] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) COMMUNICATING IN THE MIDST OF CHANGE WORKSHOP Please note additional workshop on August 12, 2015 in Tumwater. Changes in libraries can have a large impact on staff, customers, and other stakeholders. Something as small as rearranging a few chairs and tables can lead to strained interactions if change is not communicated well. What about the larger changes? The tools and processes for communicating change are similar whether the change is minuscule or enormous. Whether you are dealing with customers who have a hard time adjusting to changes in their environment (e.g. rearranged furniture) or staff who are trying to maintain high levels of service in the midst of major changes (e.g. moving to a new building), good communication is imperative at every level of the library.

Refreshments provided for participants by local hosts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) WASHINGTON STATE LIBRARY CLOSED JULY 3, 2015 Washington State Library will be closed on Friday, July 3^rd in observance of the Independence Day holiday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) AWC PUBLICATIONS The Association of Washington Cities (AWC) offers publications online which can be very useful to officials, staff, and residents of Washington cities. Publications, such as those listed below, provide information on the laws and regulations governing Washington’s cities. Mayor & Councilmember Handbook Small City Resource Manual --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) NEW POV DOCUMENTARIES AVAILABLE Every year POV assembles 16-20 films to broadcast nationally on Public Broadcasting System (PBS) from June – October. Part of POV’s mission is to lend out films for free screenings, nationwide. POV also develops free resources to accompany each film, including a Discussion Guide, Lesson Plan, and Reading List. POV recently announced the new line-up of documentaries for their 28th season on PBS, which premiered on June 22nd. These new films address a wide range of topics, from LGBT issues, to the child welfare system, to art, mental illness, the war in Syria, and many others. More than 80 titles are available to borrow from our Lending Library which can be browsed by title or topic. There are just a few quick steps to register a screening and borrow DVDs:

Register in the POV Community Network;
Activate your account: Check your inbox for an activation link and temporary password;
Log in to your account and click "Create an Event" to register the screening.

Libraries are welcome to borrow the films for free sneak preview screenings before they broadcast on PBS, or at any time after broadcast.
