Several awards issued by mayor
Langley Mayor Fred McCarthy presented a certificate to Nadine Zachrisson in recognition of her service to the city’s library board. Her appointment was scheduled to expire in February 2017, but she resigned early. (South Whidbey Record, Langley, 7/15/15)

Youth art club unveils new barn quilt at Carpenter Library
Elementary students in the Because Art Matters (BAM) group gathered at the Cle Elum Library recently to dedicate one of three barn quilts they crafted. The quilt, on display at the Library, is called “The Mine Shaft”, and is named after the upper county’s coal mining history. The Cle Elum Library and the Cle Elum-Roslyn Education Foundation provided support to BAM and its barn quilt projects. (Northern Kittitas County Tribune, Cle Elum, 7/9/15)
Burlington Library hosts Star Wars-inspired event (Skagit Valley Herald, Mount Vernon, 7/13/15)
Walkers can read while trekking along the Burlington Story Trail
The Burlington Story Trail opened recently, and offers a complete story for children along a section of the Port of Skagit Nature Trails west of Burlington. Pages from the children’s book “Scoot” by Cathryn Falwell have been reproduced on signs so children and other trail walkers or riders can read the story as they move along the trail. The Port of Skagit, the Burlington Library Foundation, and the Burlington Rotary Club raised a combined $10,000 to fund the interactive reading experience. (Skagit Argus, Burlington, 7/14/15)
