The book drop at the library has been vandalized recently as well, with a garbage can emptied into the drop. Library officials say a group of people have been spotted hanging out in front of the library late at night. There, I requested that one book and one video be held for me to pick up. Today, I stopped by the library branch closest to my home. I retrieved the book and video I had requested, then I checked out these items using one of the library’s digital scanners. I completed this entire process with no human interaction whatsoever. I’m sure the library system is saving money. But the whole depersonalized procedure strikes me as rather sad. How long before there are no on-site librarians, just a security guard?” (Spokesman Review, Spokane, 1/31/16) Programs & Displays Tales jump ‘Off the Page’ (The Columbian, Vancouver, 1/29/16) Rhythm buckets available at libraries Rhythm buckets for drummers of all ages are now available for checkout at the North Olympic Library System (NOLS). Big Rhythm Buckets for adults and Lil’ Rhythm Buckets for younger drummers offer library card holders a fun, free, and easy way to learn while playing the buckets themselves and the assortment of noisemakers inside. Each bucket comes with drum sticks, various hand percussion instruments like shaker eggs, kalimbas, and guiros, as well as music instruction books for both adults and kids. Patrons may borrow each bucket for up to three weeks.
