The package includes a periodicals collection, a collection of Washington and national newspapers, and resources for children and students. This new contract with ProQuest is set to begin on July 1, 2016.

  • A complete listing of the content in the new ProQuest package is available along with links to detailed descriptions of the individual components on the ProQuest Package Product Descriptions page.
  • Individual library prices will be posted on the Statewide Database Licensing (SDL) website after they have been calculated which will be determined by the number of participating libraries.
The SDL Advisory Committee had a key role in the selection process, advising on the Request for Proposal (RFP), and subsequently assisting with the scoring and making recommendations. Feel free to contact members of the Advisory Committee, or SDL staff, with your comments or questions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) ARSL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE JULY 1 The Washington State Library (WSL), with funding from the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), is providing two scholarships to attend the 2016 Association of Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) conference from October 27-29, 2016 in Fargo, North Dakota. The ARSL conference is specifically for rural library staff. Previous conference topics have included building community advocacy; effective trustee recruitment; inexpensive programming ideas; innovative web services with few resources; virtual networking; and many more. Scholarships will include transportation, all conference fees, and lodging. WSL will reimburse other allowable costs at the state per diem rate. Preference will be given to applicants who have not won this scholarship before.
  • Applicants must be from a public or tribal library or library branch serving a population of 10,000 or fewer in Washington State.
  • Scholarship awardees must commit to a doing follow-up project.
  • The deadline for applications, both the paper copy and the digital copy is July 1, 2016. Paper copies may be hand-delivered or postmarked by July 1, 2016.

If you would like to learn about the challenges involved in setting up a Minecraft® program for kids, please join us for July’s First Tuesdays webinar. Theresa will describe the technological knowhow needed and potential costs of Minecraft® programs.

The special-subject presentations, lasting about 60 minutes, are recorded so that others may listen at their convenience. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) THE UNCONFERENCE RETURNS University of Washington Libraries, in collaboration with the Associated Librarians of the University of Washington (ALUW) and Brooks Library, Central Washington University, is pleased to announce the annual Connections: Libraries Unconference @ UW. The Unconference is a fun, free gathering where librarians from different institutions can engage with and learn from one another. Inspired by the many great connections that have been made at past Unconferences, “Connections” will be the unifying theme of this year’s event: connecting to students, connecting to faculty, connecting to curriculum, connecting to community, and of course, connecting with each other. This year, the Unconference debuts lightning talks, which are a fun, fast way to share ideas and best practices. Topics can be practical or conceptual ideas, and should showcase effective practices or highlight new projects in various stages of development. Successful proposals will show evidence of being lively, fast-paced and thought provoking, while reflecting elements of the “Connections” theme. Please fill out the lightning talk proposal submission form. Selectees will be notified around July 22, 2016. More details to come!   • The 2016 PNLA conference is happening from August 3-5, 2016 in Calgary, Alberta.
  • Find detailed conference information, the registration form, hotel booking information and links to exploring Calgary and area on the conference page.
  • Please note, preferred hotel rates and early-bird prices are in effect until July 3, 2016. Any hotel bookings or registrations made after that date will be subject to additional fees.
The conference program includes speakers Dan Buchner, Michelle Cederberg, and authors David Poulsen and Cathy Ostlere. A wide variety of sessions for academic, public, and school library staff are scheduled. The Thursday evening social (Corks & Cans) will be held a short walk away from the hotel at the Ranchman's Cookhouse and Dancehall. Come prepared to kick up your heels and network with colleagues from Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, and Washington. Questions?
