While the sessions are being held at Educational Services Districts, they will be general in nature, and appropriate for any library staff interested in the latest enhancements to and features of the various ProQuest products included in the statewide contract. Washington Rural Heritage is a collaborative digitization program headquartered at the Washington State Library. The project brings together unique local history materials from libraries, museums, and the private collections of citizens throughout Washington. For more information about Washington Rural Heritage, please contact Evan Robb at [email protected] or 360-704-5228. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) LETTERS ABOUT LITERATURE CONTEST The annual Letters About Literature contest first deadline is nearing! Please encourage teachers and students in grades 4 - 12 at your school or in your library service area to participate. Homeschoolers are welcome as well.

Level 3 (grades 9-12) entries must be postmarked by December 2, 2016.
Level 1 (grades 4-6) and Level 2 (grades 7-8) entries must be postmarked by January 9, 2017.

The 24th annual writing contest for young readers is made possible by a generous grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, with additional support from gifts to the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, which promotes the contest through its affiliate Centers for the Book, State Libraries and other organizations. This is the 12th year that Washington State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State, has sponsored Letters About Literature as part of Washington Reads. Participants are asked to create a Zine about some aspect of Washington history using primary resources. Entries will be accepted from four age groups:

Grades 4-6
Grades 7-9
Grades 10-12
Adults of all ages

The deadline is Thursday, January 26, 2017 to apply for 2017-2018 grants.
