Library News The Friends of the Longview Library need a logo, and they want the public to design it. The new Friends logo will be used for projects related to the work of the Friends and to benefit the Longview Public Library. The winning logo designer will receive a $50 gift certificate from the location of his or her choice. The winning logo will be announced and displayed at the library in late September.

Library News Bleyhl Community Library director Geraldine de Rooy recently unveiled a proposal to change the current library hours starting in June. During the City Council meeting on May 3, she outlined her reasoning and proposed hours. Currently the library is open six days per week for a total of 33.5 hours. De Rooy is proposing that the library switch to a five-day week and increase the hours of operation to 37.5.

Library News May 10, 1910 was a big day for the people of Chehalis. After years of longing for a city library, a dedication ceremony opened a stunning brick building on the hill overlooking the downtown core. Today, the Chehalis Library is a part of the Timberland Regional Library System. Check Monday's "Today in History" column by local historian Edna Fund for more on the library's opening exactly 100 years ago.

Clippings, Supreme Court Ruling Special, May 13, 2010

The Washington State Supreme Court issued a decision today ruling against the Seattle ACLU and their plaintiff's on the Certification of the Question from the U.S. Federal Court on whether libraries must remove internet filters at the request of an adult. The Court found that the North Central Regional Library, the largest library district in the State of Washington, did not violate Article 1, Section 5 of the Washington State Constitution with its policy of filtering the internet.
