Capitol press corps takes another hit

Adam Wilson, the well-regarded Capitol reporter, blogger and video guy for The Olympian, is the latest to jump to state governor or the private sector. He's been hired as Governor Gregoire's speechwriter, succeeding the irascible and talented Hal Spencer, himself a former AP newsie who penned some of Gregoire's most memorable lines. Hal has retired, and later this month, Adam will move over.

His fellow Olympian scribe, Brad Shannon, says he's sorry to see Wilson head off, and it's hard to see yet another talent jump ship as the industry continues to face tough times and an online transformation for news and advertising. By Shannon's count, the once proud-and-sassy press corps is down to eight people. He says the word is that Wilson will be replaced with another reporter. In the case of other recent departures, the press corps simply shrank some more.
