Archives and campaign pieces: "Scoop" Jackson

With the big November 2 statewide election just a week away, we thought it would be fun to turn the clock back and view some of the campaign documents of well-known Washington politicos that our State Archives has stored away.

Here is a campaign brochure that former U.S. Senator Henry “Scoop” Jackson used during either his 1972 or 1976 bid for President. In ’76, Jackson scored Democratic primary wins in Massachusetts and New York. But several primary losses to Jimmy Carter forced him to drop out of the race on May 1 that year.

Jackson, who served in the U.S. Senate for more than 30 years, died while in office in 1983.
