These Elluminate webinars are free and open to everyone. The series is called Building Community Support for Broadband and will be based on the Broadband USA Connecting America's Communities toolkit. The toolkit is accessible via this shortcut link: www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/broadkit. The first webinar will be Tuesday, January 25. Each webinar will be presented twice at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The theme of the first webinar will be Planning for Success and will include discussion on Chapter 2 of the toolkit. Thursday, March 24: Outreach Opportunities;
Thursday, April 21: Advocacy;
Thursday, May 19: Writing a Press Release;

The Guide covers topics including:

Developing a Grant Proposal;
Proposal Format;
Preparing for Executive Summary;
Preparing the Introduction;
Writing the Statement of Need;
Developing Measurable Goals and Objectives;
Program Narrative and Program Evaluation;
Budget, Budget Narrative or Justification.

Included with the guide are links to separate listings of federal, private and non-profit programs that would be of interest to those seeking assistance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) NEW EMERGENCY RESPONSE NETWORK Cultural institutions face the challenge of preparing for, and responding to, emergencies that affect their collections. To help address this challenge, several Seattle heritage organizations have formed a new collaborative disaster network called the Seattle Heritage Emergency Response Network (SHERN). All SHERN members have institutional disaster plans for their collections, but have agreed to help each other to "respond to emergencies and disasters affecting cultural resources and collections by providing advice, support and/or actual recovery assistance." SHERN is broadly based with archives, libraries, museums, and records management programs as charter members. The thirteen charter members are the City of Lake Forest Park, Diocese of Olympia (Episcopal Church), King County Archives, King County Law Library, Museum of History and Industry, National Archives Pacific-Alaska Region, Providence Archives, Seattle Art Museum, The Seattle Public Library, University of Washington (UW) Burke Museum, UW Henry Art Gallery, UW Law Library, and the UW Libraries. SHERN, in addition to responding to collections emergencies, will help members acquire the expertise needed to cope with emergencies and disasters, and facilitate partnerships between members and local first responders and emergency managers before disasters in order to enhance cooperation and understanding.
