April 30, 2011, marks the 15th anniversary of “Día” - “El día de los niños/El día de los libros” (“Children’s Day/Book Day”). The Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, is encouraging libraries to share their plans for celebrating this special day, which honors children, books, and cultures. Visit Día’s 15th anniversary Facebook® page at www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/DiaFacebook to see what others are doing to celebrate. Additional information and resources to help libraries participate may be found at www.sos.wa.gov/quicklinks/Dia. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) LOVE. TALK. PLAY. As part of the events highlighting the National Week of the Young Child (April 10 – 16), Thrive by Five has kicked off their “Love. Talk. Play.” campaign, which aims to help making parenting a little easier by encouraging parents to focus on three things that they can, and should, be doing with their children from birth: love, talk, and play with them. The “Love. Talk. Play.” campaign was shaped by input from national early learning experts and conversations with lower-income parents, who often do not have access to parenting support and information. For more information, visit www.lovetalkplay.org. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) ENRICH YOUR LIBRARY The Fundraising Management Workshop, sponsored by the Public Library Association (PLA), in partnership with the Washington State Library, will equip you with the skills you need to develop an effective fundraising plan for your library and to implement it successfully. Throughout the two-day workshop, the instructor, June Garcia, will engage you in group exercises and provide you with practical, applicable skills.
