During his appearance at the annual County Auditors Conference in Port Angeles Wednesday, Secretary Reed presented Whatcom County Auditor Shirley Forslof with the County Auditor of the Year award.

Reed praised Forslof for maintaining good working relationships with political parties, campaigns, technology interest groups and other stakeholders, and for working with Western Washington University students to promote voter registration drives and other civics projects.

The Secretary also lauded Forslof for encouraging the elections community to explore how it can use technology to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the elections process, such as exploring the use of automated signature checking programs.

Forslof, who began working as an elections supervisor in Whatcom in 1971, was elected County Auditor there in 1987. She is retiring at the end of this year.
