Step 1 - Ready to Transfer?
- Check the records are "Archival" on the records retention schedule and have met their minimum retention period.
- How to Find Which Records Are Designated as "Archival"
- Send your Archives Records Transmittal and Box Content List to the Archives Branch in your region:
Step 2 - Appraisal (If Required)
- How to Transfer for Appraisal and Selective Retention
- Contact the Archives Branch in your region to appraise the records if the records retention schedule states appraisal is required.
Step 3 - Prepare Records

- Contact the Archives Branch in your region to arrange for the Archives to collect the records.
Step 5 - Accessioning
- The Archives will accession the records into our collection and update our catalog records.
- Agencies will receive copies of the accessioning documentation to help with identifying the records in the future.
Step 6 - Ongoing Access
- Contact the Archives Branch in your region to schedule an appointment to view the transferred records when needed.
