Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and Filtering
The Washington State Library is providing libraries and consumers with material from a recent series of workshops on the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and filtering.
The information includes a history of CIPA, its impact on libraries receiving federal E-Rate and LSTA funds, and creating an Internet Safety Policy. Additional material describes how filtering software works, considerations for choosing software, and actual examples from libraries' E-Rate allocations for how CIPA compliance would impact libraries economically. Workshops were presented during October and November of this year in ten different cities around the state.
The following material is available for download:
CIPA History - PowerPoint (138K)
CIPA Overview - PowerPoint (169K)
Internet Safety: Policy and Politics - PowerPoint
CIPA: Legal Definitions - Word (31K)
Filtering Software & WA Specific E-Rate Examples - PDF (294K)
