OLYMPIA — Secretary of State Steve Hobbs has received the Washington Library Association's Honorary Membership Award for his advocacy of libraries across the state.
The Washington Library Association’s Merit Awards offer the opportunity to recognize and highlight the outstanding work ongoing in Washington libraries. The Honorary Membership Award, presented to Secretary Hobbs at a 9:30 a.m. meeting Feb. 14, is awarded to individuals who demonstrate consistent and prolonged support of library service in Washington, promote legislative action, or participate in statewide committee work and other library activities.
“I want to thank the Washington Library Association for leading, advocating, and educating in communities across the state,” Secretary Hobbs said. “Because of the resources they provide, our fellow Washingtonians have places of learning and community enrichment.”
The Washington Library Association is a dynamic, inclusive, and diverse community that provides advocacy, professional development, and leadership opportunities while promoting intellectual freedom and innovation.
Washington’s Office of the Secretary of State oversees areas within state government including managing state elections, registering corporations and charities, and governing the use of the state flag and state seal. The office also operates the State Archives and the State Library, documents extraordinary stories in Washington’s history through Legacy Washington, and administers the Combined Fund Drive for charitable giving by state employees and the Productivity Board state employee suggestion program to provide incentives for efficiency improvements. The Secretary of State also oversees the state’s Address Confidentiality Program to help protect survivors of crime.
